Knittastic: Make Your Own Designer-Inspired Pouf

created at: 03/30/2011

Knitted poufs have been huge, huge, huge lately and while I fully embrace the trend, I don't really care for the accompanying price tags.  From Christien Meindertsma's $2400 Urchin Poufs to Ferm Living's $268 knitted floor pillows, they seem a little more than steep.  If you've got the skills - or a grandma who loves you dearly - you can make your own for a fraction of the cost!

This DIY comes from Norwegian craft blog Pickles and is very, very doable provided you or someone who owes you a favor knows how to knit.  (Maybe this project will be a good incentive to learn?)

To make your own you'll need:

  • 18 balls of yarn
  • 2 cheap down duvets to stuff inside (or several old blankets, etc.)
  • #13 and #19 circular knitting needles

Once you've gathered your supplies or coerced your knitter friend to make this for you, head on over to Pickles for the complete instructions.

Meanwhile, let's discuss affordable pouf options, shall we?  I've seen (and actually own) one of the poufs from CB2 that run for $90.  Have you spotted any other affordable poufs or tutorials for making your own?  Share your sources or thoughts in the comments!
